Answer to Question 1

Muscle spindles are special muscle sensors that respond to being suddenly stretched; they respond by producing a
muscle contraction called a stretch reex. However, if the muscles and tendons are stretched slowly, the stretch
reex can be avoided.

Answer to Question 2

The stretch reex is a muscle contraction that occurs in response to a quick muscle stretch. It can be detrimental to
exibility exercise in that it can cause muscle contraction when you are stretching the muscle and thereby cause
muscle damage.
