Answer to Question 1

ANS: Fatty liver can occur after only a few days of heavy drinking and can lead to delayed fat metabolism. By-products of alcohol metabolism are used to make more fat, which leads to a liver that has cells full of fat. If drinking continues, the by-products of alcohol metabolism can cause nausea, vomiting, fever, jaundice, and loss of appetite, which are all signs of alcoholic hepatitis. In the final stage of liver disease, cirrhosis, the liver cells die and scar tissue forms. The liver is unable to filter toxins and waste products; these build up in the bloodstream, causing mental confusion, nausea, tremors, and even coma or death.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
