Answer to Question 1

d

Answer to Question 2

The first 2-3 months are the critical time for tissue and organ formation of the unborn child. The embryo is implanted within the wall of the uterus around 7-10 days after fertilization and is exposed to substances in the maternal blood that can diffuse across the capillaries. Alcohol can easily get from the blood to the tissues. At this point, the placenta is not fully formed. This organ helps to filter out toxins but is not yet fully functioning in the first couple of months of pregnancy.
