Answer to Question 2

Our cells produce ATP energy in the presence of oxygen within the mitochondria of the cells. The chemical reactions, known as the electron transport chain/system, occur in the mitochondrial membrane and can produce free radicals. Free radicals can also be produced during the process of inflammation as well. Many people may have low level inflammation that increases the levels of free radicals in their body. The cells of the immune system also produce free radicals as they destroy pathogens during the course of an infection.
