Answer to Question 1

Trained medical interpreters have a good understanding of medical and colloquial terminology in both languages, as well as cultural sensitivity to relay concepts and ideas. Using non-professionals can be problematic. They can be reluctant or embarrassed to discuss certain problems in front of close relations, or the non-professional interpreter may decide that certain information is irrelevant or unnecessary and does not provide complete information. Such an interpreter may be unfamiliar with medical terminology and unknowingly make mistakes.
