Answer to Question 1

Free will refers to the idea that people have the freedom to decide for themselves how to act and what to become. Although it is almost impossible to know for sure whether people have free will, most people act as though they think they do. One phenomenon that makes this point is reactance, which occurs when a person expects to have a freedom of some sort and feels that the freedom is being threatened. The result is an attempt to regain or reassert that particular freedom.
