Answer to Question 1

The literature review can assist the grant seeker in generating ideas by 1) assessing the value of an idea and adjusting its focus to more clearly describe the goals, 2) identifying other professionals who could be sources of advice and/or potential collaborators, and 3) providing the background data needed to write a compelling needs statement for the proposal. At the conclusion of the literature search, grant seekers should be able to describe their idea, the uniqueness of the proposed project, and why it is likely to succeed.

Answer to Question 2

The four foundational steps in generating a grant proposal include generating ideas, describing goals, identifying funding sources, and identifying potential collaborators.
