Answer to Question 1

While all values of are great importance, the head circumference measures can confirm that growth is proceeding normally or help detect protein-energy malnutrition and evaluate the extent of its impact on brain size. Exceeding the 95th percentile for weight-for-length is considered obese. Falling below the 5th percentile for weight-for-length is categorized as failure to thrive, while falling at or below the 10th percentile for weight-for-length is classified as suspect for failure to thrive. All of the values are plotted on the appropriate growth chart with trends to be noted over time. An infant's growth rate should be fairly consistent and wide variations are cause for further evaluation.
