Fluid and electrolyte imbalances result in hypertension, arrhythmias, and eventual heart muscle enlargement. Excessive parathyroid hormone secretion leads to calcification of arteries and heart tissue. Patients with uremia are at increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart failure.
