Sodium selenite and sodium selenate are inorganic forms of selenium. Sodium selenate is almost completely absorbed, but much of it is excreted in the urine. Sodium selenite is only about 50 absorbed, but is better retained than sodium selenate. Selenomethionine, an organic form of selenium, is about 90 absorbed. Presently, there is little consensus among nutritionists that one form of selenium supplement is better than the others.
