Answer to Question 1

Serve toddlers nutrient-rich foods cut into bite-sized pieces to reduce the hazard of choking. The list of foods could include a mini whole-grain bagel (not toasted) cut into small bites; small pieces of a whole-grain muffin; yogurt with banana pieces; and bite-sized pieces of fresh, ripe fruit. Always supervise toddlers while they are eating.

Answer to Question 2

The list include foods that are easily lodged in the child's airway; possibilities include whole grapes, hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, hard candy, seeds, peanut butter, raw carrots, chunks of meat or cheese, raisins, and chewing gum.
