The progression of effects of increasing BAC is relaxation, sense of well-being, and loss of inhibition; pleasure, numbing of feelings, nausea, sleepiness, and emotional arousal; mood swings, anger, sadness, and mania; aggression, reduced sensations, depression, and stupor; unconsciousness, coma, and possibly death.

Alcohol dehydrogenase metabolizes alcohol within the stomach and liver, and the microsomal ethanol-oxidizing system (MEOS) is responsible for alcohol metabolism within the liver.
