Natural seeps are the largest source of oil in the ocean. The amount of oil entering the sea has
increased in recent years, however, because of our growing dependence on oil products.
Marine transportation, offshore drilling, nearshore refining, street runoff carrying waste oil
from automobiles, air pollutants, and farm runoff account for the sources of oil pollution
entering the world ocean.
