Answer to Question 1

In Chapter 10, you learned that the public and media have altered notions as to what a tidal wave is. They consider any large wave a tidal wave. Tsunamis are the most notable wave to receive this title in the media.
Tidal bores are true tidal waves because they are generated by the rapid influx of tidal currents. They form at inlets and river mouths that are exposed to large tidal fluctuations.
Tidal bores are steep waves that move upstream due to the force of an incoming tidal crest in an enclosed area,
These waves move towards land at higher speeds than are theoretically possible for a given shallow-water wave at that depth. It travels rapidly upriver.
The danger of tidal bores is reduced because they are predictable. They are associated with incoming tides.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.

Though Candida and Aspergillus species are the most common fungal pathogens causing invasive fungal disease in the immunocompromised, infections due to previously uncommon hyaline and dematiaceous filamentous fungi are occurring more often today. Rare fungal infections, once accurately diagnosed, may require surgical debridement, immunotherapy, and newer antifungals used singly or in combination with older antifungals, on a case-by-case basis.
