Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Pierre-Simon Laplace was the first to realize that ocean depth and the location of the continents need
to be taken into consideration to understand tides. He also included in his theory that tides are still true
waves. He incorporated all these concepts to create the dynamic theory of tides. Information can be
found in the section The Dynamic Theory of Tides Adds Fluid Motion Dynamics to the Equilibrium

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Organisms can tolerate varying amounts of exposure to air rather than the normal ocean conditions.
They sort themselves into zones based on their requirement of water. There can be three of more
distinct bands in intertidal zones. Information can be found in the section Tidal Patterns Can Affect
Marine Organisms

It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
