If the melting point ranges of your dimethone and dimethone anhydride derivatives were the same, what common analytical technique(s), not including NMR or mass spectrometry, could you use to establish if the compounds were the same or different?

Answer to Question 1

One could perform a mixed melting point determination. If the two samples were identical, then the melting point would remain unchanged. If the two samples were different, then a melting point depression would be observed.
