Answer to Question 1

Add a small portion of fresh, anhydrous organic solvent to the mixture. After transfering the
liquid to another flask, the drying agent can be rinsed with a small amount of fresh solvent.

Answer to Question 2

The principal advantage is that more water will be removed from the solution. The disadvantage is that more of the desired organic compound will be lost by adsorption onto the sodium
sulfate crystals.
