Answer to Question 1

For most people, the meaning one derives from work is based on the money it generates as well as the opportunity for personal growth. One's particular occupation has little to do with the need to find meaning in one's work. Finding meaning in one's work can mean the difference between seeing work as a source of fulfillment and contentment or a source of life's problems. Researchers write about four common meanings of work: developing self, union with others, expressing self, and serving others. Issues around work include its role in one's overall identity. How does one's work identity change across jobs and during the retirement years? Other work-related issues include advancement, stability, discrimination, role conflict, retraining, alienation, and burnout.

It is believed that the Incas used anesthesia. Evidence supports the theory that shamans chewed cocoa leaves and drilled holes into the heads of patients (letting evil spirits escape), spitting into the wounds they made. The mixture of cocaine, saliva, and resin numbed the site enough to allow hours of drilling.
