Costume designers use ornaments, such as lace, buttons, tassels, embroidery, and sequins, and accessories, such as hats, scarves, shoes, jewelry, canes, and handbags. Costume designers also use wigs and hairpieces, and may dye, cut, shave, or style an actor's own hair. A designer uses makeup to help define a character, create old age, accentuate character traits, or reshape the face completely, and masks to set a presentational style or provide an even greater alteration of persona.
