Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an inherited sex-linked disorder caused by a genetic mutation. The muscles closest to the center of the body, those of the hip and shoulder area, are affected first. We do not know how to correct the metabolic disorder or halt the progression of the disease. Children with muscular dystrophy have normal feeling in their limbs even though they cannot always move them.
