Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Morality is not easy to define. Students should note Damons definition. Early moral emotions are empathy, shame, and guilt. Toddlers are just beginning to show empathy. They evidence shame when their autonomous efforts fail. Guilt develops later in the preoperational period. Toddlers tend not to attend to conventional rules, such as refraining from talking during storytime or sitting down to eat. They are more attentive to moral transgressions, such as aggression and resource violations.
