Some issues for teachers to consider when part of an assessment team are:
 
  a. develop good working relationships with parents develop effective communication strategies
  b. make referrals carefully and tell parents what to do because many are anxious
  c. listen very carefully and diagnose the child for the parents
  d. avoid discussing potential concerns of families
