Answer to Question 1

Children develop ideas about food from a variety of sources, including their families, peers, school, and television (and other media forms). Television and family food preferences and eating patterns exert a particularly strong influence on young children's early food choices while peers and some media forms become more influential as children age. Family members should serve as positive role models for children. They can take steps to improve their own nutrition knowledge, plan nutritious meals, and engage in physical activity on a daily basis. Children should also have opportunities, planned and spontaneous, to learn about basic nutrition at home and in school.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).

Though Candida and Aspergillus species are the most common fungal pathogens causing invasive fungal disease in the immunocompromised, infections due to previously uncommon hyaline and dematiaceous filamentous fungi are occurring more often today. Rare fungal infections, once accurately diagnosed, may require surgical debridement, immunotherapy, and newer antifungals used singly or in combination with older antifungals, on a case-by-case basis.
