Answer to Question 1

A teacher might use a cell phone camera, and iPad or other notebook with a camera, a tape recorder, a digital camera, or video recorder for anecdotal records, running records, time sampling, or event sampling. Video recordings might also be used for checklists. It is important that permission for any audio recording, photography, or videotaping be on file before these technologies are used. The advantages of a digital camera are that film would not need to be developed and a record could be kept conveniently on a CD for further use. The health record file might be kept on a CD to save room and for greater convenience. If a scanner were available, all records could be scanned and added to the CD.

Answer to Question 2

A teacher should be aware that development takes place in a holistic manner so that all the contexts should be considered. Observation helps meet the needs of children from all backgrounds. Observations about the child's health, habit, and behaviors help in the early detection of problems. There are many types of assessment tools and many types of technology that can be used to help the teacher record observations.
