Well prepared by the teacher, children are active and engaged, there is an enthusiastic teacher and an accepting teacher, appreciation is shown for child effort and contributions, the activity suits the particular child group, new ideas and concepts are offered with teacher clarification if need be, it is comfortable, light source is good, novel features may be present, sharing and turn taking takes place, and the teacher and child group is relaxed and unstressed, and an assistant can help when necessary. A sense of trust prevails.

Answer to Question 2

Read-alouds; interactions including print use; phonological awareness activities; explicit instruction that promotes some curriculum goal; activities that attempt to assess children's interests and needs; recap, news (announcements) activities; activities that promote children's group participation skills including group discussion and skill; activities that promote children's speaking abilities; and activities that promote child self-control, attending to others speech, and expression of opinions and preferences, and activities that promote children's creative use of language or use of language to express or symbolize ideas. Activities planned to take place during group times involve those that promote goals in listening skills, speaking skills, pre-reading skills, and print awareness and print use. Other answers are possible also.
