The child should be helped privately and respectfully. Give the child opportunities for responsibility and leadership in positive settings as well as chances to entertain others in appropriate ways. For example, a child might be encouraged to plan a skit for classmates, chosen to pass out napkins, or allowed to sing, dance, or act out a story at group time.
