Mr. Johnson has been on the treadmill only five minutes and is in stage II of the Bruce protocol. He now complains of extreme fatigue but no chest pain. His skin is cold and clammy. He is nowhere near his target heart rate. What course of action is indicated?
◦ Back the treadmill to stage I to let him recover.
◦ Coax him into continuing.
◦ Advance to stage III.
◦ Stop the test.
