The patient is a 42-year-old male with Graves disease. He has had previous surgery for removal of part of the thyroid gland. His symptoms have not improved since the surgery,so he was admitted at this time for bilateral thyroidectomy for the remaining tissue. After an uneventful surgery and hospital course, the patient was discharged in stable condition.

Helen Martinez is a 52-year-old Hispanic female who was found to have a thyroid cyst while being worked up for weight gain. Mrs. Martinez was advised to undergo a fine needle aspiration of the thyroid cyst to determine whether the cyst was benign or malignant. She is scheduled today for the aspiration. In the operating room, under local anesthesia, fine needle aspiration of the thyroid cyst was performed with imaging guidance. The aspirate was sent to pathology which revealed the cyst to be benign. Options for continued treatment will be discussed with the patient at her next office visit.
