Answer 1

The Queen Mary II takes five days to cross the Atlantic. The mega-ships of today can travel at a maximum speed of 22 knots or 25 miles per hour.

Answer 2

As explained in the chapter, defining a typical ecotourist has challenged a variety of researchers and organizations. While it is generally concluded that ecotourists are well-educated and well-traveled international travelers, it is difficult to document a specific profile. Certainly many ecotourists are young, inexperienced, and travel within their own country to see nature-based sites. The goal of this question is to engage students to think about why it is difficult to define this dynamic type of tourist and to begin to outline what aspects could be identified and tracked in order to profile such tourists on an ongoing basis.
