Dictatorships and wide-scale corruption among politicians that harm the economic development of a country, including its tourism infrastructure, are also detrimental to tourism development. In such places, there is an underlying danger in the form of police surveillance and/or rampant crime. Further, hotels as well as communications and transportation facilities are usually run-down and tourist attractions are also poorly maintained.
