Answer 1

MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. Meetings incorporate business sessions held both internally (inside the company often for training purposes) and externally (with clients). Incentive events essentially represent rewards to top performers in a company in the form of all-expense paid stays at an island resort or trips to the Olympics or Super Bowl, for example. Conventions are large periodic gatherings of affiliated groups representing professional or trade associations, labor unions, or political organizations. Exhibitions involve displays of goods and services offered by many companies at a single location. The annual hotel and restaurant show usually held at the Javits Center in New York in October brings together industry buyers and suppliers where new products are displayed in a succession of booths.

Answer 2

One can argue that the economic impact of sports stadiums is not sufficient to support the use of public funds for building stadiums. However, the stadium could have boosted the New York City bid for the Olympic Games, which would have resulted in bigger economic benefits. The economic impact of Olympic Games on local economies has mixed results. Atlanta (1996 ) and Los Angeles (1984 ) are among the few for whom they did not become a burden, but rather a benefit.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
