In such an enterprise, there is no compulsion to please customers or closely monitor costs. The opposite is the case with private ownership that must earn a profit or disappear into bankruptcy. Earning a profit requires pleasing customers while keeping expenses under control even at the risk of angering labor unions. These pressures usually lead to an efficient and attractive product.
