Answer 1

a

Answer 2

Students should be able to point to the various ethnic groups that lived in the West, including Hispanos, Mexican Americans, Native Americans, and Asians, as well as the influx of European immigrants from different countries to demonstrate that a variety of cultures coexisted. Better students will also assess the degree to which these cultures maintained their distinctiveness in the face of pressure to assimilate. Good students should not only identify areas where traditional cultures lost favor, but also where they remained vibrant, and in some cases dominant, such as the Hispanos in New Mexico or the Mormons in Utah.
