In response to sustained stress, the body goes through several stages that together constitute the general adaptation syndrome (GAS), a concept proposed by researcher Hans Selye. This GAS consists of all the following stages EXCEPT
 
  a. alarm.
 b. resistance.
 c. exhaustion.
 d. deterioration.
