What would be a reason why a person with sickle cell disease does not receive adequate care and pain control during a crisis?
◦ The person isn't aware that appropriate care for a pain crisis exists.
◦ Physicians are not familiar with the trajectory of a pain crisis.
◦ The person may not explain their symptoms appropriately.
◦ There may be subtle racism exhibited toward those with sickle cell disease.
