Behavioral genetic research with humans usually takes the one of two forms: analysis of family histories or twin studies. Pedigree studies begin with an individual who manifests a particular trait. His or her relatives are assessed to see whether they have the same trait. Twin studies are a more direct way of studying the effects of heredity on behavior. Monozygotic (identical) twins have been compared to dizygotic (fraternal) twins with respect to a variety of behaviors.
