A culture-specific syndrome is a disorder that occurs most commonly in or exclusively in
a specific culture. While many disorders may present themselves differently in different
cultures, these are disorders that are unique to a particular culture. Koro, a disorder seen
most commonly in young Asian males, is one example. This anxiety disorder is
characterized by an extreme fear that a body part is shrinking.
