How is a mental disorder typically defined?
◦ Any behavior that deviates from typical or expected standards of behavior in the majority culture.
◦ A clinically significant disturbance in a person's thoughts, emotions, or behavior that reflects dysfunction in mental functioning.
◦ Behavior characterized by odd, unusual, or eccentric activities coupled with feelings of personal distress or worry.
◦ Intrusive thoughts or disruptive emotions that impair normal daily functioning for an individual, and that represent a threat to others.
