A healthy way to respond to discrimination, stereotyping, and othering is to
◦ accept the negative messages you've received as an honest expression of the other person's feelings.
◦ advocate for yourself, including by discussing the experience with others and by filing a formal complaint if appropriate.
◦ pause, center yourself, and walk away, in the understanding that you cannot change the other person or the situation.
◦ threaten the offending individual with a criminal complaint or lawsuit.
