Answer to Question 1

In the body's cells, the sugar molecules are burned as fuel or converted into glycogen (a compound also known as animal starch that is a molecule consisting of long chains of glucose) and stored in the liver and muscles. Excess glucose is then converted into fat and stored in adipose (fat) tissue.

Answer to Question 2

The carbohydrates divide into the simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates include sugars like those found in honey, milk, fruit, and table sugar that consist of single or double glucose units whereas complex carbohydrates are long chain glucose molecules that we call starches. Glucose is one of the body's primary fuels. Did you know that our brains are fueled almost exclusively by glucose rather than proteins or fats? Glucose is also an important source of fuel for our skeletal muscles. Most healthy eating plans recommend that the highest percentage of the macronutrients we eat consist of carbohydrates.
