Answer to Question 1

Answer: C

Drinking any alcohol, no matter what type and what quantity, during pregnancy increases the risk for accidents and damage to the infant. Mothers are encouraged to drink no alcohol at all during pregnancy. Wine can put the mother and fetus at risk as much as hard liquor.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: A

Pregnant adolescents are at great risk for complications such as pregnancy-induced hypertension, anemia, preterm birth, low-birth-weight infants, and fetal harm from cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, or the use of street drugs. Early and regular prenatal care is the best intervention to prevent complications or to detect them early, to minimize the harm to both the teen and her fetus. Pregnant adolescents are at great risk for complications such as anemia. Vigorous exercise would not necessarily promote a healthy pregnancy and does not indicate an understanding of the increased risk for an adolescent who is at risk for substance abuse.
