Burping the infant frequently during feedings is the best intervention, because air is a common factor in regurgitation. Although positioning on the right side after feedings will help prevent reflux, it is not the best answer, because this occurs after the feeding. Also, preterm infants require smaller, more frequent feedings. Giving small amounts of glucose water in between feedings does not provide nutrition, and thin liquids are more associated with regurgitation than thicker liquids.
