 In 1945, Nartosabdho was overheard playing kendhang (hand drum) by the manager of the Ngesthi Pandawa wayang orang troupe who asked Nartosabdho to join the troupe.

Answer to Question 2

 During his life, Nartosabdho was famous as a gamelan musician, composer of new gamelan pieces, and shadow puppeteer (wayang kulit dhalang). In his early childhood he was a painter, pursued classical style (Indonesian) dance, learned to play Western music on several Western instruments, and even learned to make masks which he sold to support his schooling.
