Rationale: Being African American, being male, and increasing age are all risk factors for developing heart disease. Obesity and diabetes are also risk factors, but can be modified with diet, exercise, and good blood sugar control. Cigarette smoking is an independent risk for heart disease. The current recommendation for LDL in clients with other risk factors for heart disease is 70100 mg/dl.
