Antibiotics have been shown to promote infection by the highly contagious C. difficile, which has a high mortality rate in older adults.
Ibuprofen appears to promote C. difficile infection.
Iron supplements are not indicated in the treatment of C. difficile or diarrhea. Iron supplements can cause discoloration of the stool (black) and lead to constipation.
