Chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia is a disorder characterized by the development of proteinuria during pregnancy in women with chronic hypertension. In women with hypertension and proteinuria before 20 weeks of pregnancy, it is indicated by a sudden increase in proteinuria, blood pressure, or abnormal platelet or liver enzyme levels.
