In the absence of proteinuria, the disease is highly suspected when increased blood pressure is accompanied by headache, blurred vision, abdominal pain, low platelet count, and abnormal liver enzyme values. Chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia is a disorder characterized by the development of proteinuria during pregnancy in women with chronic hypertension. In women with hypertension and proteinuria before 20 weeks of pregnancy, it is indicated by a sudden increase in proteinuria, blood pressure, or abnormal platelet or liver enzyme levels.
