Answer to Question 1

1 . Nickel may be critical to protein and lipid metabolism and gene expression. It may also influence bone formation. Nickel is found in legumes, nuts, and chocolate.
2 . Aluminum may be important to reproduction, bone formation, DNA synthesis, and behavior. It is found in many baked goods, grains, some vegetables, tea, and many antacids.
3 . Silicon is important to bone growth in laboratory animals. Silicon's dietary sources include whole-grain products, and it is also used as a food additive.
4 . Vanadium influences cell growth and differentiation, and it may affect thyroid hormone metabolism. Dietary sources include mushrooms, shellfish, and black pepper.
5 . Arsenic may be a cofactor for a variety of enzymes, and may be important to DNA synthesis. Seafood and whole grains are good sources of arsenic.
6 . Boron is especially important to reproduction in laboratory animals, and its deficiency causes severe fetal malformations. Boron is found in fruits, leafy vegetables, legumes, and nuts.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
