Answer to Question 1

The student should indicate that pain and outrage at the loss of trust and intimacy are the prime responses to the discovery of an affair. Can trust ever be regained? The victimized spouse will experience anger over lost time, financial costs, lost intimacy, and the threat of sexually transmitted diseases. Discovered affairs usually do not lead to divorce, but divorce can be the outcome for some.
