Hemoglobin is a posttranslational modification of hemoglobin in which the hemoglobin molecule is glycated. Its concentration is increased when diabetes is uncontrolled.

ANS: D
The fetus has a need for oxygen. In order for the fetus to extract oxygen from the mother's blood (cord blood), its affinity for hemoglobin must be higher than that of the mother.
